ASU Spikeball Club

Spikeball is a fun sport that I played with friends in college for fun. There were a good amount of people who liked to play so I started a club named Sun Devil Roundnet. Technicall, Spikeball is the company that makes the black and yellow nets to play the sport of Roundnet. Its like how Kleenex is a brand, and tissues are the actual paper. Everyone calls it Spikeball anyway.

The Club

I founded Sun Devil Roundnet (SDR) as a student organization with the goal for it to grow into an official club sport at ASU. At the same time, I also revived Spikeball as an intramural sport. With the help of a co-president, I drafted a constitution, designed and created the logo and other graphics, posted flyers around campus, sent weekly emails, tabled at club fairs, and hosted meetings to play Spikeball. SDR slowly accumulated active members, and after 3 years, it grew big enough to fulfil my goal of becoming an official club sport.

Tournaments

During my sophomore year in 2017, the co-president and I got funding through ASU to travel to California to compete in a Spikeball tournament. Competition was tough and we got our asses handed to us, but it was super fun to meet other people and watch talented players!

The following year the club officers and I hosted our own tournament at ASU. This was a great deal of work because we needed to reserve the fields, buy insurance, rent speakers and tables, make a website, and handle every logistical detail to make the event a great experience. The animation on the left was at the top of our website for the tournament. Spikeball (the company) was kind enough to supply prizes to bracket medalists. The co-president managed to get the club sponsored by Savage Apparrel who made custom jerseys for the winning team of the highest bracket. I personally love the design the guys at Savage made.
